Pinterest Followers for Dawn's Disaster

Can you believe my goal for 2013 was to reach 1,000 Pinterest followers?  What on Earth was I smoking when I decided that?!?  I must have been momentarily insane.  I mean, just a few short months ago {before my Blog-O-Versary celebration}, I only had 218!  Well, when I reached 600 Pinterest followers, I thought it would be really cool to do a CASH giveaway.  So, I gathered up some friends and we got $100 together.  THEN, I planned it to start the weekend after Thanksgiving, making sure that I would have enough time to get it all put together.  So, I watched my 600 turn into 700 and got really excited.  Then 700 all of a sudden was close to 800!  A miracle!  A Pinterest miracle!  SO, now it's time to giveaway some money...

Happy Thanksgiving from Renee!

Thank you to Renee {from Mother Daughter Book Reviews} for sharing this great book compilation for Thanksgiving!
Thanks For Thanksgiving - Julie Markes
- - - - - - - - - - - -
Thanksgiving Day is a time to pause and reflect on our blessings. Here in Canada, we have already celebrated Thanksgiving Day in October, but I know that in the United States, this is a very important time of the year as well. All too frequently, we flit through life taking for granted the people in our lives, the roofs over our head, the food on our table, and the clothes on our back. I remember my Mom telling me that I needed to eat every last bite on my dinner plate because "somewhere in Ethiopia a small child has no food to eat". I use this logic with my children too, but gratitude and appreciation for the things you have are concepts that can be very difficult for children to grasp. Thanksgiving Day is a wonderful vehicle to spark discussions about being grateful, and I always turn to books to facilitate that dialogue. Below, I have identified five picture books about gratitude that are perfect for sharing with children at this time of year.

Five Children's Books for Thanksgiving Day

The Thankful Book by Todd Parr
Title: The Thankful Book Author: Todd Parr Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers Publication Date: October 16, 2012 Pages: 32 Recommended Ages: 3 to 6
Summary (Amazon):
"I am thankful for music because it makes me want to dance.
I am thankful for my feet because they help me run and play.
I am thankful for kisses because they make me feel loved."
Todd Parr's bestselling books have taught kids about unconditional love, respecting the earth, facing fears, and more, all with his signature blend of playfulness and sensitivity. Now, The Thankful Book celebrates all the little things children can give thanks for. From everyday activities like reading and bathtime to big family meals together and special alone time between parent and child, Todd inspires readers to remember all of life's special moments. The perfect book to treasure and share, around the holidays and throughout the year.
Thanks For Thanksgiving - Julie Markes
Title: Thanks for Thanksgiving Author: Julie Markes Illustrator: Doris Barrette Publisher: HarperCollins Publication Date: August 26, 2008 Pages: 32 Recommended Ages: 4 to 8
Summary (Amazon):
Everyone knows that Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks—the question is, where to begin? From the turkey on the table to warm, cozy cuddles, life is full of small things and bigger pleasures. But what is most important is being able to share them with family!

Just so Thankful by Mercer Mayer
Title: Just so Thankful (Little Critter) Author: Mercer Mayer Publisher: HarperFestival Publication Date: August 22, 2006 Pages: 24 Recommended Ages: 3 to 8
Summary (Amazon):
There's a new kid in town who has everything Little Critter wants -- a Super Streak scooter, his own cell phone, and even a limousine! But Little Critter soon realizes that he has something money cannot buy -- a family who loves and adores him.
Thank you Thanksgiving by David Milgram
Title: Thank You, Thanksgiving Author: David Milgram Publisher: Sandpiper Publication Date: September 18, 2006 Pages: 32 Recommended Ages: 3 to 7
Summary (Amazon):
In this exuberant Thanksgiving story, a little girl goes on a last-minute errand for her mother. Along the way, she thanks all the familiar things she loves—her warm boots, the song of the birds, the pretty clouds in the November sky. And when she gets home from her errand, her family thanks her for what she has brought.
The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks
Title: The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks Authors: Michael & Jan Berenstain Publisher: Zonderkidz Publication Date: September 28, 2010 Pages: 32 Recommended Ages: 3 to 7
Summary (Amazon):
The Living Lights Berenstain Bear series helps children learn how God wants them to live every day. The Berenstain cubs act out the first Thanksgiving---complete with costumes, props and a full Thanksgiving feast. But will Sister Bear's pet turkey play the part of dinner? The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks teaches how God provided for the pilgrims and reminds children of God's many blessings.

Primrose & Pirates Etsy Shop **Giveaway

What a way to start Black Friday!  Check out this great giveaway from Primrose & Pirated and Faith Filled Footsteps.
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
Primrose & Pirates is a wonderful little Etsy store that I recently ran across while trying to find my son a fall coat. I love to purchase my kids handmade and made in the USA items. I have discovered that I would rather spend a few more bucks and get an item that is wonderfully handcrafted with love and as always I love to support my country. MADE IN THE USA IS THE WAY TO GO!
Let me introduce you to Kristen the shop owner:
"I am a wife and mother to three active kids, and I'm blessed to be able to stay at home with them during the day. I have always loved creating things. So when I was given a handmade dress for my 2-year-old daughter a little over a year ago I was immediately taken with how cute and unique it was--and with the idea that I could make an outfit for her myself. I hadn't sewn anything in several years, so I pulled out my sewing machine, found a pattern I thought I could muddle my way through, and bought some fabric. Turns out that the whole process of making a dress was so satisfying that I immediately made another one! I made her wear those two dresses all summer because I loved seeing her wear them and I liked them so much.  What started as a project quickly became a passion. With encouragement from friends, I decided to make the plunge into selling the clothes I make. Choosing fabric, imagining what might be as I hold prints in my hand, and then seeing that vision become reality. . . I love it all! I sew in the afternoons while my kids are napping and in the evenings. My sewing machine lives in the family room, and the kids like to play with buttons and fabric scraps. They are the inspiration for most of the things I make. And they are mostly cooperative in testing outfits and trying things on for me. My daughter, now almost 4, often asks, "Is that a dress for me or are you going to sell it away to another girl?" She wishes they were all hers!" ~Kristen
Primrose & Pirates makes some really wonderful items let me show you! I know summer is over but I love these pillow case dresses even in the winter with a long sleeve shirt and some cute stocking! Somethings are just a year round goodness!
Now we all need a good fall jackets or vest. These are so cute!

Now onto a super cute little skirt. We love a cute dress or skirt year round with a leg warmer or stockings!

There is just so much cuteness that I almost forgot to show you the super adorable jacket we got to try. I love the flannel and corduroy. This jacket has wonderful little buttons no zipper! I LOVE THIS JACKET and we have gotten so many compliments on it. Everyone wants to know where to get one! This one is a KEEPER!

Primrose & Pirates and Faith Filled Footsteps are giving one lucky readers a $35.00 gift certificate to purchase your favorite item! If you cannot wait to see if you are the winner you can head on over to Primrose & Pirates and find the perfect item for your little one!
