SPAMMERS!!!

YAY!  I think my "spammy" commenters are gone.  Or, at least I hope that they are gone.  It seems that since I changed my setting to approve all comments, the weird ones have gone away.  So, I am unleashing the comments back to you now  :D  SO, your comments will show up right away when you make them again.  I hope that those bad spammers don't come back.

On another note, my emails go into your spam boxes, unless you have me in your contacts.  So, if you would be so kind as to put me into your address book (dawnsdisaster@gmail.com or dawns_disaster@yahoo.com) that would be lovely.  I do send out cool emails every once and awhile :)

Deviled Egg Salad and Homemade Pickle(s)

So, check out my lunch from the other day:

That's some Deviled Egg Salad on my bakery bread and a slice of homemade pickles (there were two when I ate it).  It was SO yummy!

Deviled Egg Salad:
12 Eggs (check out this cool egg holder)
1/2 cup Miracle Whip
1/8 cup Yellow Mustard
2 Tablespoons Pickle Juice
2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
Sprinkle of Paperika

Hard boil the dozen eggs.  Peel and cool.  Once cooled, chop into small squares (about 1/8"x1/8").

In a separate bowl, blend together Garlic Powder and Pickle Juice.  Add Miracle Whip and Yellow Mustard.  Add cubed eggs.

I like to have it on a half whole wheat/half white bread, garnished with homemade pickles.  The Hubs likes it on whole wheat or honey wheat and oat bread, garnished with homemade pickles and sliced onions.

TT~Meet Claudia

I started the 30 Day Blog Challenge because of my cousin, Kate (she had her turn a few weeks ago).  Kate started because of Claudia at Lashes and Beard.  I needed the list and felt dumb asking my cousin for it, so I looked at Claudia's blog...voila!  I'm all of a sudden a new follower and have a spankin' ad space on her blog.  It's amazing how you meet Bloggy people!  Here she is:

Dawn’s Disaster

This is a great way for me to learn more about my bloggy friends and to help promote their blog.  So, once you're read their fantastic post, stop by their blog and leave them a note.  Tell 'em you stopped by from Dawn's Disaster :)  If you'd like to be a part of my Traveling Tuesdays, give me a holler or stop by my contact page!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hey y'all! My name is Claudia and I blog over at Lashes & Beard. That's my little corner of the blogosphere where I write a lot about my faith, delicious food, my wonderful family, and anything that inspires laughter and creativity. You'll find most of what I write has equal measures of humor, observation, and sarcasm. Beyond the blog, I'm both blessed and humbled to call Josh my husband, Isaiah my son, the Pacific Northwest my home, and Jesus Christ my Savior. Aside from writing, I love to read, bake, and dabble in a bit of photography.

I'd like to thank Dawn for inviting me to be part of her "Traveling Tuesdays" Series! I took the title of the series quite literally, so today I'm sharing some vacation tips with you all that have been tested and proved. I hope you find them useful in your upcoming trips and that they save you time, stress, and a penny or two.

Check your vacation spot's LivingSocial/Groupon page.I'm a LivingSocial junkie, and why not? There are always outstanding deals on there - more often than not, for cool restaurants and fun local activities. So before you set out on your vacation, sign up for the LivingSocial deals for that area. When a deal comes up that you like, snag it! Just make sure that the deal will still be valid during the time that you'll be in the area.

| We got a great deal on a 4-Hour ATV Tour Package |

Check Craigslist. Most people only know Craigslist for its "For Sale" and "Jobs" pages, but there's much more to it. Look under "Community" and "Events" before setting out on your trip and see if there are any activities happening while you're there. Oftentimes you can find author readings, free day passes to museums, or classes that are offered for free or on the cheap.

Eating out is expensive!A big part of vacationing for us is trying the food of the local area. However, that doesn't mean you have to blow all your spending money by eating out every night. Try booking a room in a condo or timeshare, where cooking utensils and dishes are usually supplied, then head out for a local Farmer's Market or produce stand. You'll find foods that are in season in that area. If you've never cooked with these foods before, ask the seller for recipes or preparation tips - they're always more than happy to help. You'll save money by buying fresh ingredients and preparing it yourself, but you'll also get to savor that local cuisine in a new and interesting way.

| One of the many local Farmer's Markets on Kauai |

Make a Bucket List.Josh and I have four bucket lists: one for me, one for him, one for things to do as a couple, and one for things to do as a family. Gather up your list(s) and see if anything on them can be done where you're going on vacation. For example, if I've always wanted to ride a trolley and I'm going to San Francisco... well, lookie there! I just got to cross something off my list. Likewise, if you've always wanted to learn how to juggle, or go on a fishing boat to catch some marlin, or hike to the top of a mountain... why not do it somewhere fun and unexpected? Sure, you might be able to do those things in or near your hometown, but doing it on vacation will make your trip that much more memorable!

Thank you again to Dawn for allowing me this opportunity. I hope you'll come visit my blog sometime soon and say hi! Also feel free to stop by my Facebook and Twitter pages.

Today, Another Tragedy in History~a Different Perspective

Well, I don't know if I'm out to lunch or what.

I am so frustrated by the people who think it is a good idea to go somewhere and shoot it up.  Really?  Two in one week?  COME ON USA!  Get it together.  Do you really think this is the way to solve your issues?  Why is there this out lash of hate?  Seriously, if you are needing attention, I'll give it to you - if you DON'T go shoot anything.

So, let's talk about these parents.  I'm not talking about the parents of the shooter(s), yet.  Remember the shootings in that Colorado movie theater?  I feel bad for that little girl that got shot and I feel horrible for that baby that was in the theater, but you know what?  I don't feel bad for the parents that brought them there.  You are the dumb head that let your six year old (or three month old for that matter) go to a midnight showing?  Did those parents really need to go see the midnight showing of a movie SO badly that they needed to take their baby?  NO.

Today, there was a little child on the news, describing what happened.  Really?  Why aren't these parents protecting their children better?  This child has just lived (probably) the most horrific and traumatizing event in their little life and is now {their parent is allowing them to} telling it on television.  If my child had just witnessed that, they would be nowhere near the cameras.  This is NOT the time to make your child famous.  Protect your child and do not make them relive this event outside of the proper channels.  Get counseling for them right away.

Parents, please go home and give your child(ren) extra love tonight.  Remember, they are the reason that you should be living now.  They should be your pride and joy, the reason you wake up in the morning, your number one priority.  Don't you think about the day(s) they were born and think about how different your life was before them, a few times a day?  Well, don't let them go tonight.  Make them miserable with your love tonight, for this whole weekend in fact!

Ok, I'm off my soap box now.  Go ahead and hate me.  It's ok.  I am stable (for the most part) and can take it.

TAG~I'm No Longer IT (Christmas Style)

Ah!  I've been Christmas tagged, thanks to Kera over at Nugget on a Budget!  Well, it was all Lanaya's idea (check out her original post HERE).  So, if I tagged you, you can blame it on them :)

Dawn's Disaster

So, this tag has a Christmas twist.  It's sort of like those bloggy awards that are ever so fun to do (and yes, I still have two or so to give out~sorry gals, I haven't had the time yet), except with Christmas questions.  So, here's the deal-e-o:
1st:  If you've been tagged, go on and get yourself a button!
2nd:  Answer the questions that are asked of you.
3rd:  Tag 5 bloggers that you love and adore.
4th:  Ask your 5 bloggers 5 questions about their Christmas traditions.

So, to answer Kera's questions (well, really Lanaya's questions, because Kera cheated and just used the same ones):

1~What makes Christmas such a special holiday for you and your family?
Christmas is special in my family for a few reasons.  One is...it's my birthday!!!!!  Woop, woop!  Yep, it's MY day, b!tches!  Like Jesus, however; I was most likely also NOT born on Christmas Day, but it's the day we have and will always celebrate it on.  BESIDES being my birthday, it is special because we get to see extended family.  We only see parts of my extended family every other year or so, so that makes it all the more special.

2~Were you told the truth about Santa Claus by your parents or did you find out another way?  And...do you plan on lying to your kids (if you have them or plan on having them)?
Funny and true story.  My "great-uncle" (Kate's father-in-law, pictures here) used to dress up as Santa for all of us "great-nieces" and "great-nephews".  Well, one year, I noticed that he happened to always be taking a big ole crap when Santa came.  Mind you, I was WAY older than one should be to just have figured this out, but hey, no one told me he was a fake!  The Big One has already figured out that the Santas in the malls and strollin' down Main Street are fake.  We lied and told her they were helpers for the REAL Santa (because he doesn't have enough time to let every boy and girl sit on his lap), but the REAL Santa breaks into my parents house to give her gifts each Christmas...this one she thought up, because they do not have a chimney.

3~Real tree or fake tree?
I LOVE the look of real trees, but I'm quite allergic, so we have a few fake ones.  Too bad we didn't figure out I was allergic to pine until I was about 25...

4~Do you open presents on Christmas morning, Christmas Eve or both (or other)?
Well, as we have already established, my birthday is Christmas.  So, we celebrate my birthday on Christmas Eve day and I get to open gifts.  Then, the whole family opens all gifts on Christmas Day, not necessarily all completed in the morning.  One year, we started at 7:00am and didn't finish opening them until 9:00pm.  Seriously.  It wasn't a continuous stream of opening gifts, but it took that long to get through all of them.  The Big One was not yet one and she took a long time to open them.  Then, she wanted to play with all of the toys.  Then, she needed to eat breakfast.  Then, she needed a nap.  Then, she needed lunch.  Then, she needed another nap.  Then, she needed a snack.  Then, she needed dinner.  See how it took so long?  It was good, though...and memorable.

5~What is your favorite Christmas movie to watch?  Favorite Christmas song to sing or listen to?
Probably Christmas Vacation, since it's the only one I can think of besides Elf and the movie with Ralphie.  My favorite Christmas song is (this version, too):

So, onto my 5 Bloggy-Tagees:
Kate over at Can I Get Another Bottle of Whine
Jaime @ Mom's Test Kitchen
Jay from Crafty Spices
Disney Girl, Brenda
Danette of All My Love for All My Days

My 5 questions:
1~What tradition does your family partake in that is unique to your family?
2~What is your favorite Christmas dessert/treat?
3~Do you enjoy egg nog?  Spiked or regular?
4~What is your favorite Christmas song?  I only semi-stole this questions, since it was technically the 6th of Lanaya/Kera's questions.
5~Is there usually snow on the ground by your for Christmas?

Would you do me a favor and leave a comment with your link?  I'd love to read your Tag~Christmas Style post!

Merry {Early} Christmas, all!

So, I Wear Contacts, BUT...

Have you heard of GlassesUSA.com?  If not, you really need to check them out!  They have glasses for both men and women.
Why buy eyeglasses online from them?  Well, they offer designer brands, prescription or non-prescription glasses, multifocal lenses, and more!  I'll bet you're wondering how you can tell if you will like the style on YOU.  Well, check out their virtual mirror!  Just snap a picture (or upload one) and you can "try on" all of their styles!  Try it out now:
There are several frames I really liked!  I have more of a simple, smaller taste in glasses.  Wire rim, thin, bronze/brown or purple so dark it looks black.  I have worn the same style for YEARS.  Some may say I need to branch out, but I think I'll stay with what I like.  Amazingly, I found a pair of glasses on this site that I may need to try out...imagine my non-surprise when I saw the brand was Coach!  My favorite pairs of eyeglasses are:
Izzie
Really, sharp, classic, and the best part is, the NAME!  It's the Big One's nickname, so she would be sad if I didn't get these.
Me in the Izzie glasses
in Blue
Don't they look cute!  You can hardly see that they are blue.  Also, have you ever smelled Kenneth Cole Reaction for Men?  To DIE FOR!  So, the glasses would be perfect for me (yep. that's the way my brain works).
in Pink (cuz every girls needs a little pink)
These are a little on the boxy side, but I thought I could add them to my collection.  I love the color.  Not just your basic brown or black.  Give a little flare to an outfit!
in Bronze (my favorite)
Now, the arms are thicker than I usually go for, but maybe that could be a small change that I make.  I suppose a small change wouldn't be all that bad.
Order glasses from GlassesUSA, it couldn't be easier.  All you have to do it go to GlassesUSA.com and order your favorite styles now!  Use promo code FS15 and take 15% off your entire order amount + FREE shipping (orders over $50).  Or, if you do not need a prescription, use promo code Blog10 to take 10% off any order of prescription glasses.
